Product Overview

You have been searching for the perfect pickled sausage.

Not too hot. Not too mild. Not too vinegary. Not too soft. Not pretending to be something it is not.

We know. The journey has been long.

Well, friend, welcome home.

Big John’s Pickled Sausage is Red Smith’s best-selling sausage, and after one bite, it is easy to understand why. We are still not exactly sure who Big John is, but we do know this: the man put his name on a mighty fine sausage.

The first thing that hits you is the flavor. Then comes that firm texture. Then the snap.

Yes, the snap.

These sausages have a thin casing that gives you that classic bite people love. They are lightly spicy, full of flavor, and do not have that overpowering vinegar smell or taste that can scare off the faint of heart. As one of our customers put it, “It’s not too hot and it’s not too mild.”

That is the sweet spot.

Big John’s Pickled Sausage is juicy, flavorful, and packed in a bold pickling solution with plenty of personality. Big John apparently likes them juicy, and we are not here to argue with the man.

    Memories

When I was a kid my parents owned a bar and restaurant. I loved to go there and eat the hot picked sausage at the bar. Big John's is excellent.. I really like the pickle sausage. It is really close to what I remember. I did try to drop some hard boiled eggs in the juice and those are really good also. Great seasoning. Thanks for the gallon jar. It may last me a while. It will be eaten.

    grease sausage

They are too grease for me not good . *****Pickled Store response***** Yes, true. The Big Johns pickled sausage contains a lot of fat in the pickling solution but, in our opinion, that is what makes them so good. The fat will congeal sometimes if the container gets cold in transit to you (much like bacon grease congeals when it cools down) which is especially true in the winter months. Some folks simply use a hair dryer to melt the grease back into the pickling solution.

I ordered 2 jars for our American Legion post the first jar was great, but there was a problem with the second one. When I called and told them about it. they sent our post 2 more jars. Our members like the pickled sausage and we will be ordering more as time goes on.

    Next best thing

I have been Hooked on the McKenzies pickled Kielbasa all my life, but they are no longer available. So I found Big Johns on line. They are about the same as the McKenzies but I could do with out the other then being a little pricey on the shipping they are worth the price. Maybe they can cut the price of the shipping, After all I have received heavier parts for my tractor and paid less for the shipping.

I love these sausages!! I have purchased many jars over the years... When i bite into them, they make that noise of freshness. I am from Fla but have moved to NC, and there is nothing that compares to these sausages!!!

    Couldn't wait

Thank you for the prompt delivery. I ordered 2 jars of sausages for my family and I in Arizona. I had a jar of sausages and eggs sent to my brother in Kentucky. We crave them to the point our mouths water as we think about them or talk about them. Big John's brand is the only brand that my family and I will buy. Over the years we have tried other brands, they are not a good substitute. MY family, my brother and I grew up in South Florida eating the Big John's sausages and eggs. Eating these brings back fond memories. A very good brand and an affordable price. Thank you very much. GOD BLESS and Happy New Year.

    Cant Eat It

We used to buy pickled sausage back when wall mart used to sell them. Was so excited when on a trip to Florida I saw these in a convenience store. I wish now I would have purchased one there to try. Instead, when I got home, I ordered them online, $40 plus after shipping, and they were not what I expected. Whole family has tried and no one likes them. I was really confused since all the reviews were really great, but 5 of us tried them and most spit them out into the garbage. Maybe we got a bad jar, who knows, not willing to purchase them again to find out.
